Synapse Microcurrent Ltd has developed a medical device designed to augment and promote an accelerated rate of soft-tissue repair. This device, the Synapse Accel Heal uses a specific sequence of micro-current electrical pulses to interact with innate biological processes. This has an effect on a number of levels but primarily it is designed to facilitate molecular transfer between cells in order to bring about a homeostasis to an area that is bio-chemically disrupted as a result of illness or injury for example in a chronic non-healing wound

The control of cellular activity, for example the augmentation of the regenerative process in tendon tissue is not triggered by applying a random electric current to the affected area. In a similar way to a drug dosage targeting a specific cell function, a specific amperage, polarity and pulse rate should be used that synchronizes with specific parameters of the cell type to promote/augment the restoration of the targeted process. Synapse patented programmes incorporate research findings into a series of pre-set programmes specific to certain cell types, for example tendon and dermal cells.

Synapse’s micro-current technology is based upon a proprietary sequence of electrical parameters that are specific to a given physiological process. Research has indicated that cells interpret and respond more readily to a sequence, which mimics the body’s own cellular electrical signaling processes, than to just one single electrical current. An example of this relates to gap junction function; an enhanced molecular flow rate between cells is created when one set of treatment parameters are applied facilitating an acceleration of cellular reproduction. This same response is not seen when an alternative treatment programme is applied to the same cell type
